Montane Sponsors Student to Volunteer in Cambodia AIDS Orphanage.
BRISBANE, Queensland — August 23, 2015 — Montane announced today it will sponsor high school student, Stephanie Jennings, to volunteer for two weeks at an AIDS orphanage in Cambodia.
The sponsorship is part of Montane’s Giving Program, a philanthropic program that sponsors young people to volunteer on projects with a global reach.
Stephanie said she’s very excited about receiving the sponsorship, “Money is a really important to charities. The orphanage needs money to buy equipment and for the general daily care of the kids. Now that Montane is sponsoring my trip, I can donate my fundraising money directly to the orphanage, rather than spending on getting myself there.”
AIDS/HIV is a significant health problem in Cambodia, with up to 300,000 people infected. Most new transmissions occur in women and children.
The Giving Project is part of Montane’s overall focus on building legacy. Montane’s CEO Craig O’Hara explains that giving is one of the most important aspects of legacy, “When you give, you emphasise something bigger than yourself; something beyond you. This is the true purpose of legacy.”
Montane selected Stephanie for the program from a number of applicants because she showed an awareness of her own privilege. “She’s not guilt-ridden by the opportunities she’s had in life, but she senses how important it is to give back to society. And you can start doing that at any age.”
Stephanie will travel to Cambodia in December. She will blog about her journey on Montane’s website at www.montanestore.com/legacycloud.
